Sex & The City Anniversary
Can you believe it’s 18 years today since the world saw for the first time Sex and the City? If you have known me for years, you probably already know that I have watched this series for years without missing an episode and when it was not on TV anymore, thanks to them being online. Of course, I still watch it today. Always and forever.
I still remember the last scene now: “You’ve got the Love” by The Source featuring Candi Staton gave me goose bumps as Carrie swung her Manolo bag and giggled on the phone to Mr. Big, who we just found out was in fact named “John”. I could barely see, I was crying so much. was saying goodbye to four dear friends who I had grown to love over the past few years. Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda had dated the same idiots I had; had stared at a silent un-ringing phone along with me; had so many stupid things in common with these women that losing them was breaking my heart.
For me, Sex and the City wasn’t just a TV show; it was another friend who was going through everything that I was going through — even though I wasn’t in New York and did not have such fancy wardrobes. To celebrate the glorious thing that it was, I’ve rounded up the best ever Sex and the City quotes – on love, sex, life and, most importantly, friendship – to remember just how fabulous those gals were…
“I’ve spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live? I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes!” – Carrie
“Somewhere out there is another little freak who will love us and understand us and kiss our three heads and make it all better” – Carrie
“I will not be judged by you or society. I will wear whatever and blow whomever I want as long as I can breathe and kneel” – Samantha
“I used to think those people who sat alone at Starbucks writing on their laptops were pretentious posers. Now I know: They are people who have recently moved in with someone.” – Carrie
“Maybe the past is like an anchor holding us back. Maybe, you have to let go of who you were to become who you will be.” – Carrie
“Fuck me badly once, shame on you. Fuck me badly twice, shame on me.” – Samantha
“Being single used to mean that nobody wanted you. Now it means you’re pretty sexy and you’re taking your time deciding how you want your life to be and who you want to spend it with.” – Carrie
“You and I are like that red wall. It’s a good idea in theory, but somehow it doesn’t quite work.” – Carrie
“All those men who end up disappointing you. After a while, you don’t even want to have feelings anymore. You just want to get on with your life.” – Carrie
